There are three basic steps in the hardware lock installation process:
- Installing the hardware lock software
- Installing the lock itself
- Running the Enable Wizard
An explanation of each of these steps is outlined below.
NOTE – The hardware lock contains an electronic circuit board, so handle it with care throughout the installation process or at any time when it becomes necessary to transfer or handle the lock.
STEP 1:
Hardware Lock Software Installation
You can download the latest drivers (Sentinel Protection Installer) for your server here. This software needs to be installed once on the computer where the hardware lock will reside (server computer) - No drivers are necessary on the computers that will run your modeling software (personal computer) as long as you have a working netenble.001 file. For information on the formatting of the netenble.001 file, see below.
Action:
- Download the Sentinel Protection Installer from the link above and install on the server computer.
- Follow the prompts and select the complete installation.
- Select Yes to allow firewall modification when prompted.
- Close any programs currently in use as you will have to restart the machine after the installation in order for the new drivers to take effect.
- Check the netenble.001 files on all of the personal computers that have your modeling software installed.
STEP 2:
Installing the lock itself
Connect the lock to the USB port on your computer.
Action:
Attach the hardware lock to the USB of your server computer.
You can check to see if your personal computer is properly set up to detect the hardware lock on the server computer by opening an internet browser on your personal computer and typing in the following address including your server computer's IP address: http://(server IP address):6002
For example if your server computer's IP address is 111.222.3.44 then the address would read : http://111.222.3.44:6002
To find your server computer's IP address you can follow these steps in Windows:
- Click the start menu and select Run…
- Type "cmd" to open a DOS command Prompt
- Type "ipconfig" into the command prompt and view the IP address listed below
STEP 3:
Verify the Installation using the Registration Wizard
The Registration Wizard automatically enables your modeling software. It will search for your hardware lock and the associated drivers. Once they have been found, your software is configured to work according to the modules that you purchased.
Action:
- Start the XMS software.
- If the Registration Wizard doesn't appear, go to Help | Register XMS.
- Select the "Change Registration" button.
- Select the "Get license from a network lock." hardware lock option.
- Enter either the IP address or the Host name in the corresponding field under "Network lock setting"
- Select the "Apply Lock Setting" button. See the troubleshooting section at the bottom of this page if an error appears.
- Select "Finish".>
TROUBLESHOOTING
Here are a few things to check if your USB network lock is not working:
- Is your lock programmed for the same version as the software you are trying to enable?
- Hardware locks for XMS software are version specific. They will only enable the version for which they were programmed. If you have been issued a code to reburn your existing hardware lock click here. If you are upgrading to a new version of the software but have not received a code to reburn your hardware lock, please contact Aquaveo sales. If you don't know what version your lock is programmed for, skip this step for now.
- Was the hardware lock attached to the machine while the hardware lock drivers were being installed?
- If they were, the lock will need to be removed from the machine, and the hardware lock drivers will need to be reinstalled with the lock detached from the machine.
- Are the Drivers installed correctly on the server?
- You can verify this by going to Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs and look for "Sentinel Protection Installer". If there are multiple Sentinel items found on this list, remove all but the latest version installed.
- Drivers can be found here.
- Are firewall settings set up so that the hardware lock is accessible?
- Open a web browser and type the server's IP address followed by ":6002". For example if your server computer's IP address is 111.222.3.44 then the address would read: http://111.222.3.44:6002.
- You should see the Sentinel License Monitor showing you the details of the keys attached to the computer.
- Do you have a valid netenble.001 file?
- In the directory in which you installed the XMS software, check for a file called "netenble.001".
- If there is no netenble.001 file, try running the Registration Wizard by going to "Help | Register" and selecting "Network lock" on step 2.
- Occasionally an administrator installs the XMS software, and a different user without administrative privileges tries to enable the software but is unable to do so because he/she cannot write to the Program Files directory. If this is the case, an administrator will have to either enable the software using the Registration Wizard, or create the netenble.001 file manually.
- The netenble.001 file can be created manually in a text editor and saved with the .001 extension. The first line contains the IP address of the server, i.e. 111.222.3.44, and the second line contains the word DEFAULT in all caps.
- Have you ever used a password to enable the XMS software?
- If yes, then the password may be blocking the XMS software from detecting the hardware lock.
Password files in GMS 7.1:
- Go to Start | Run and type "regedit"
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | EMRL
- You should see an entry called gmspassword71
- Delete or rename it to something like 123gmspassword71 (that way if you need it again in the future you can recover it)
Password files in SMS 10.1:
- Go to Start | Run and type "regedit"
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | EMRL
- You should see an entry called smspassword101
- Delete or rename it to something like 123smspassword101 (that way if you need it again in the future you can recover it)
Password files in WMS 8.4:
- Go to Start | Run and type "regedit"
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | EMRL
- You should see an entry called wmspassword84
- Delete or rename it to something like 123wmspassword84 (that way if you need it again in the future you can recover it)
Password files in AHGW 2.4:
- Go to Start | Run and type "regedit"
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | EMRL
- You should see an entry called ahgwpassword
- Delete or rename it to something like 123ahgwpassword24 (that way if you need it again in the future you can recover it)
