There are three basic steps in the hardware lock installation process:

1.	Installing the hardware lock software
2.	Installing the lock itself
3.	Verifying the installation

An explanation of each of these steps is outlined below. Most of the installation process has been automated with an automatic installation wizard.

NOTE – The hardware lock contains an electronic circuit board, so handle it with care throughout the installation process or at any time when it becomes necessary to transfer or handle the lock.

STEP 1:

Automatic Hardware Lock Software Installation

The automatic install does almost everything for you – from installing the system drivers to applying any patches you might need. On the CD containing your modeling software, there is a Utilities folder. In the Utilities folder there is a folder called HwLock. The HwLock folder contains a program called Setup.exe that will install all of the correct drivers and patches. It automatically detects which drivers and fixes are necessary and installs them to your hard drive.

If you do not have a software CD, you can download the latest drivers for your hardware lock here: USB Locks or Parallel Port Lock.

Action:

• Insert your product CD into your CD-ROM drive.
• Close any programs currently in use as you will have to restart your computer after the installation in order for the new drivers to take effect.
• IMPORTANT: Make sure the lock is not physically attached to your computer as you are installing the drivers! If it is attached to your computer, remove it NOW before completing the next steps of the software installation.
• From the Start bar, select Run.
• For a USB lock, type the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and the string \utils\hwlock\usb_hwlock.exe
• For a Parallel Port lock, type the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and the string \utils\hwlock\pp_hwlock.exe
• Follow the prompts.
• Once the installation wizard finishes, reboot your machine.

NOTE: Use add/remove programs to remove any Sentinel drivers that are currently installed on your machine before running the automatic installation. The program you will want to remove is called "Sentinel System Drivers". Please note that when you are installing the new drivers, the USB lock should NOT be attached to your machine. Attach the lock after you shut down your machine and preferably before starting it up again.

STEP 2:

Installing the lock itself

If you have a parallel port hardware lock, connect the lock to the parallel port on the back of your computer. The parallel port is a connector on the back of your computer’s CPU that is the same size as the hardware lock. The port may already have a printer connected to it. If so, the printer can be simply hooked to the back of your hardware lock.

Action:

• If you have a printer attached to your computer, disconnect the printer cable.
• Attach the hardware lock to the parallel port of your personal computer.
• Fasten the screws on the lock so that it is firmly connected to the computer.
• Attach the printer cable to the back of the hardware lock.
• Firmly fasten the printer cable screws to the hardware lock.

For a USB port hardware lock, simply plug the lock into one of the USB ports on your computer. The USB port is most commonly found on the back of the computer, but some machines also have ports on the front panel.

STEP 3:

Verifying the Installation - Using the Enable Wizard

Explanation: Once the drivers have been installed, you need to run the software and verify that the installation was successful. To determine if the hardware lock is functional follow these steps:

Action:

• Start the XMS software.
• If all steps have been completed correctly, you will instantly be able to use the software, and the installation is complete.

If the software loads up and prompts you either to enable the software or run in demo mode, a problem occurred with the installation.

To remedy this,

Action:

• Load up the Enable Wizard by selecting the “Enable” tab on the window, or click on the “File” menu, select “Register,” and click on the “Enable Wizard” button.
• Follow all remaining instructions and select the “Single User Hardware Lock” option when prompted.
